Infusion Therapy in Naples, Florida

Infusion therapy is a specialized medical treatment that delivers medication directly into the bloodstream through an intravenous (IV) line. This method ensures fast absorption and accurate dosing, making it especially effective for medications that don’t work well in pill form. It is widely used to treat a variety of conditions, including neurological conditions, autoimmune diseases, infections, chronic pain, and certain cancers.

Common uses of infusion therapy include treatments for rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), and oncology care. For patients with autoimmune disorders, infusion therapy can deliver biologic medications, advanced drugs designed to target specific parts of the immune system, helping to reduce inflammation and slow disease progression. In MS, infusions of therapies such as Ocrevus or Tysabri have been shown to decrease disease activity and improve quality of life.

Recent medical advancements have also made neuroinfusion therapy an option for Alzheimer’s disease. New drugs like Leqembi® and Kisunla™, which target beta-amyloid plaques in the brain, are administered through IV infusion and may help slow disease progression in certain patients.

Infusion treatments are given in an infusion center by a trained nurse. Sessions may last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the medication, and can be scheduled as frequently as once a week or as little as once a month.

For patients who require powerful medications that cannot be taken orally, infusion therapy provides a safe, precise, and effective way to manage both chronic and acute health conditions.

Receiving infusion therapy in the hospital typically takes longer than receiving the same infusion in an office-based Infusion Center. As a result, many patients find it difficult to get their infusions in the hospital and value the accessibility and affordability of their local office-based Infusion Center. Hospitals typically charge much higher fees for their services, even if they are offering the same or lower level of care for infusion patients.

The National Infusion Center Association believes that the office-based Infusion Center is currently the most cost-effective site of care for patients needing infusion therapy. They have a more controlled environment and are often more patient-friendly due to their focus on administering infusion medications.

First Choice Neurology is a member of the National Infusion Center Association (NICA). NICA provides high-value resources to educate and care for patients, as well as tools to facilitate the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care.
